With so many Excel spreadsheets available, how do you know that Excel spreadsheets are advanced? How do you choose between excel templates and the other Excel applications?
While the word advanced in Excel comes with a lot of meaning and expectation, the answer to that question is a matter of personal choice. For some, advanced Excel templates can only be used by advanced users. And for others, there is no clear line between an advanced Excel spreadsheet and one that is more basic.
At the very least, most professional Excel users would classify the normal end-user as a novice, but more than likely as a beginner. This isn’t too far from the truth. Beginners to Excel templates usually start with some basic spreadsheet templates that have been used and tested for years. These don’t necessarily require advanced Excel features such as the Multi-Range Finder, but they do help to familiarize the student with the basics.
For the real master of Excel, however, using a more advanced template can be a great benefit. Some experts recommend that a student should use the Excel template that matches his or her level of experience. However, there is also the option of using a basic spreadsheet template that is good enough for beginners and can be applied in more advanced Excel applications later on.
One basic example of this is the calculator. A beginner may want to use a basic Excel spreadsheet for common calculations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, but once they’ve done this for a while, they might wish to experiment with more advanced features such as the Multi-Range Finder, for example.
Using a Basic Spreadsheet As a Starter Template. Even though using a basic spreadsheet will probably not seem like much of a burden at first, once a beginner has learned a few basic functions and can use them with ease, the ability to use complex features may come more naturally. This can help to keep the student on the right track to becoming an advanced Excel user.
For the beginner Excel user, though, using a basic spreadsheet can provide a good way to familiarize themselves with the basics and get a feel for what is available. The more advanced features come later. Still, it is a good idea to start simple so as not to lose the ease of use that beginners find so exciting.
